DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Appleton, Tracy & Co, Model 1862, Civil War era, 15J, 20S, silver original C.E.H. & Co. HC, front shield engraved with name "J. Sparks," case appears to have been gilt at some point in its past but only small portions of gilt finish remain, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), gilt mvt, s#125090. This watch is from a production run listed in Waltham factory records as being made between March and May of 1864.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered mild surface spots, main plate with some overall ultra-fine scratch striations likely from a past light wiping(s), maltese cross element of winding stopworks is missing; dial with hl below seconds-register at 6, two tiny pinpoint dark spots inside 2 which appear to be as-made finish imperfections, very small edge nick outside minute chapter at 6:30, some scattered additional tiny edge nicks elsewhere; excellent hands; case appears to have been gilt at some point in its past but only small portions of gilt finish remain, case shows medium wear, no dents or dings, reduced engine turning detail with areas of full loss, lift spring needs some assistance to open case front though initial portion of opening range; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; glass crystal with some long fine scratches crossing its length.
